EXCLUSIVE: Karl Chapman reveals plans to grow Calrec’s global market share
Calrec’s new international sales manager has spoken exclusively to PSNEurope about his plans for the company.
Karl Chapman, Calrec’s new international sales manager, has spoken exclusively to PSNEurope about his plans to grow the company’s global market share.
In his new role, Chapman will focus primarily on EMEA territories.
“Having worked in the broadcast sector for a good number of years, I have gained a lot of experience and a large network of contacts within the market; not only in the TV industry but radio too,” Chapman told PSNEurope. “I am looking to leverage this experience to further expand Calrec’s market share in my territories. This is particularly exciting following the launch of Calrec’s new Type R radio console as it’s the start of Calrec’s radio journey, and I’m sure I can help build Calrec’s presence in this exciting market.
“I really want to get out and talk to distributors, partners and systems integrators – Calrec is expanding its international network very quickly and it’s great to be involved in these planning discussions.”
Chapman also highlighted key areas of opportunity for Calrec to further establish itself across the pro audio market.
“Calrec is very well established in the high-end console demographic, but with the introduction of the Brio 36 and Brio 12, and the Type R radio system, Calrec has a fantastic opportunity,” he said. “These compact, powerful, but affordable consoles are well suited to a number of new territories, as well as with new customers in established territories. There are still a lot of opportunities for Brio to establish Calrec in these markets, and my job is to help our partners achieve that.
“The Brio product portfolio is a fantastic console at a very competitive price point and this has great potential in both established and new territories,” he continued. “Then there is the other exciting opportunity created by Calrec’s move into the radio market. Type R console provides a highly configurable solution with a native IP backbone at a very competitive price point. It has the powerful feature set and UI you’d expect from Calrec so it’s going to be a major contender in the radio market.”
Commenting on Chapman’s appointment, Dave Letson, VP of sales at Calrec, said: “We’re delighted to announce Karl as international sales manager. With more than four decades of professional audio experience spanning many different market sectors, he brings a wealth of impressive knowledge to his role. He has a strong understanding of the broadcast sector and, combined with his extensive sales and technical background, it’s clear he’ll be an excellent addition to our team.”
Chapman has a wide range of experience in the television and radio broadcast industries. He spent many years with Neve, Mitsubishi Pro-Audio and Amek before joining Harman Professional Solutions in 1995. He initially worked for Soundcraft as European sales manager, eventually becoming EMEA senior sales manager for Studer.
