The data for 2024 is now available courtesy of HMRC. Alan continues crunching the numbers quickly to help us all determine the true state of our UK MI industry.
This edition of data is a overview of the Acoustic Piano Market, The UK data very much reflects the USA numbers, The UK import Numbers of upright acoustic pianos arriving in the UK is -39% year on year. The USA number is -40%. There seems to be a correlation in the two markets.
Grand Piano
The Grand piano data, however does indicate a differential in the data. The UK reflects a 12% increase of Grand Piano imports, but this was after a shocking drop of -45% in 2023. The USA data shows a drop off in imports of -23% in 2024 Following on from a -21% in 2023. There were large errors and miss use of the commodity code over the last 6 years, that needed correcting. I’m confidant that the UK data is as accurate as it could possibly be.
It seems we have reverted back to a similar number of units as 2019. The telling thing being that values are down 9%, but with inflation correction this equates to a -28% . The Margin and profitably pressure continues.
