Hagstrom’s 100th Anniversary!
Hagstrom Guitars is thrilled to celebrate its 100th anniversary! Founded on January 19, 1925, by Albin Hagström in Älvdalen, Sweden, Hagstrom boasts a rich legacy of crafting high-quality musical instruments, ranging from accordions to electric guitars. Renowned for its innovative designs and distinctive sound, Hagstrom has become a favourite among musicians worldwide.
Initially established in 1925 as an accordion manufacturer, Hagstrom has a long-standing history of guitar production. The company began making acoustic steel-string and classical guitars as early as the 1940s. In 1958, Hagstrom introduced its first electric guitars, featuring sparkle and pearloid celluloid finishes with stamped metal logos—an ingenious use of materials from their accordion production. Over time, Hagstrom expanded its range to include classic designs such as semi-acoustic and jazz models (like the “Viking®” and “Jimmy”), solid bodies (such as the “Swede” and “Super Swede”), and electric basses. The world’s first 8-string bass, the “H8,” was launched and quickly became a hit. Hagstrom guitars are celebrated globally for their professional quality, excellent playability, unique features and great value.
The reissues of Hagstrom’s classic models stand out with their unique look and innovative manufacturing processes. Hagstrom’s signature H-Expander truss rod, distinctive bridge and tailpiece designs, and visual elements like logos and headstock shapes are crafted using original specifications and drawings. Hagstrom pickups are specially wound to revive the original voicing.
Hagstrom’s tradition of innovation continues with the careful introduction of modern features and design enhancements, all while honouring its heritage. For instance, fingerboards are now made from Hagstrom’s unique Resinator wood, offering resonance and sustain qualities superior to ebony or rosewood. Original tuning key designs have been slightly updated for ease of use and electronics controls have been enhanced to suit modern playing techniques. Hagstrom have recently expanded their range with the Fantomen, Adina, Megin and Nekromant models to meet the needs of modern players.
Throughout their journey, Hagstrom have consistently delivered exceptional performance at surprising value, which is the cornerstone of Hagstrom’s reputation.
