Avalon Guitars Announce New Ownership
Businessman and musician, John McCartin has acquired Avalon Guitars.
Reflecting on this milestone, John shares: “I had my first guitar made by Avalon 25 years ago and from that day, I was fascinated by the business. Over the next few years, I had many Avalons built and I slowly developed an ambition to get involved. It so happens that today, 25 years later, on my 50th birthday, the time is right for the business and for me.
McCartin, who has been involved in manufacturing businesses for over 3 decades, is also a well-known Irish traditional guitar player. He floated the prospect of acquiring Avalon 5 years ago but family and business commitments made a takeover impossible at the time.
In 2024, McCartin made a formal bid for control of Avalon Guitars. At the time he said, “I feel I have an opportunity to consolidate the business and the team of luthiers and craftsmen and to preserve and build on the culture of excellence that saw Avalon become the cornerstone of guitar building in Ireland. I, along with the luthiers and craftsmen there, intend to double down on the 4 decade tradition of hand-building the best guitars in the world”.
The instrument has brought me to every corner of the planet and brought me unbelievable joy and satisfaction in my life. It will be my privilege to spend the next 25 years as part of the team that established the greatest handmade instrument brand in the world.
