Sterling Neck on Caprice Body

So I have this sweet Sterling fretless neck I was thinking of putting on my Caprice. Does anyone know if this swap will work. I’ve heard sometimes you need to use shims? How does one know if shims are needed and where would one acquire them? Thanks for everything! Love this community 🙂
