Max gauge strings for Luke III nut

The thread’s title says it all.
Currently I am using 9 -46 , and they fit fine.
Will a 48 or even 52 low E string supposed fit in the nut?
I am not worried about the tremolo movement range, as I do not use it that much.

BTW,
The reason I ask is when I tried it with an Axis Super Sport, 52 didn’t fit.
