Help: JP16 Ebony Fretboard Shrunk?
Picked up a JP16-7 that was “new” according to the owner just before Christmas. Long story short, I had my brother in law that’s 5 hours away pickup this guitar near him (he knows nothing about guitars) and then I got it from him when we went to visit for Christmas. He just verified that it looked like new when he got it.
Much to my surprise, when I got the guitar in hand, it had fret sprout that made the guitar unplayable.
I got the guitar back home and through a series of in-case humidifiers, applying a few light coats of mineral oil and putting the guitar in a room with a humidifier for the past 2.5 weeks, about 98% of the fret sprout is gone.
However, from about the 11-12th fret up to the 1st, you can feel a a little ridge (that you can hang your fingernail on) from where the fretboard is joined to the neck, on both sides of the neck. The maple neck is just ever so slightly wider than the ebony fretboard.
Has anybody had this happen to them before? It’s not major, but it’s enough to drive me nuts.
