Channel switching on old Mesa Dual Rectifier

Channel switching on old Mesa Dual Rectifier

I know that variations of this question have been asked a million times, but I couldn’t seem to find a straightforward answer to my specific case. I apologize in advance for the duplicate if its already been answered somewhere!

I have an old (90’s era) Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo head. I’m trying to do basic channel switching via my G-Major. I understand there are numerous things that the Mesa heads can do with channel cloning, effects loop switching based on channel, etc (although I don’t fully understand how these things work yet as I just cracked open the manual yesterday), but I’m just looking to do simple two channel switching as if I had the footswitch plugged into the front.

Do I just go from the G-Major to the footswitch jack on the front of the head? If so, what kind of cable does that require? If not, does that mean I’m going into the External Switching jack on the back of the head? Again, what kind of cable does that require? I’ve seen a lot of posts about using a Y-cable, but I’m pretty sure this is for the newer, three channel heads, correct?

Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thanks!
