“When it’s heavier, I become a WWE wrestler”: How Mark Tremonti adopts different onstage characters for his different musical projects

From his time as the guitarist for Alter Bridge to his solo projects and his work with Creed, Mark Tremonti has created a reputation as one of the most versatile musicians in rock. However, what sets Tremonti apart is not just his technical skill or songwriting abilities; it’s his ability to adapt his onstage persona depending on the project he’s working on.
In a new interview in the new issue of Guitar World, Tremonti opens up about how he switches between different onstage characters when performing with his various musical projects. He explains that, depending on the nature of the music, he often adopts different mindsets and personas.

“All my bands feel so different,” he explains. “It’s crazy going from the Sinatra shows, where I’m wearing a tux and playing with all of these incredibly gifted performers, to going over to Europe and playing in clubs with my heaviest band.”
Back in 2022, Mark Tremonti teamed up with surviving members of Frank Sinatra’s band and other musicians to create his Sinatra covers album, Mark Tremonti Sings Frank Sinatra. He has since performed a handful of shows promoting the project.

“It’s definitely a different vibe,” Tremonti goes on. “You’ve got to take a different approach. I can’t get on stage with Tremonti and be like, ‘Hey, you all look beautiful tonight, thank you for coming to the event,’ like I would with a Sinatra performance. I feel like when I do Tremonti, I become a different character. When it’s heavier music, I become a WWE wrestler: ‘Get up, everybody!’ Whatever the music pulls out of you, you know…”
Elsewhere in the interview, Mark Tremonti details plans for his upcoming projects. “I’m going into the studio with Alter Bridge in March,” he confirms. “I put together nine demos last month that I’ve shared with everybody.”
He also notes that he’s keen to record a second edition of Tremonti Sings Sinatra. “Every record that we put out [donates proceeds] to the National Down Syndrome Society, so I want to keep raising funds for that,” he says. “And it’s also just a lot of fun to do. We’re still looking at what happens [in 2025] with the Tremonti tours, stateside. And then we’re looking at Creed as well. We’ll see how it all pans out!”
