Watch Myles Kennedy play an acoustic slide version of Black Sabbath’s The Mob Rules

Alter Bridge vocalist and guitarist Myles Kennedy has performed a laid-back acoustic version of Dio-era Black Sabbath classic The Mob Rules.

Far from the full-on heavy metal sound of the original, Kennedy performs his version on his National resonator, although the cover isn’t completely clean – as for the track’s solo, he engages some overdrive and makes full use of the guitar’s neck humbucker.
You can see the performance below.

The original appears on the 1981 album Mob Rules, Black Sabbath’s second album after Ozzy Osbourne was replaced by Ronnie James Dio, following 1980’s Heaven And Hell. It was also the band’s first album with new drummer Vinny Appice.
The performance comes ahead of Kennedy’s second solo studio album The Ides Of March, which arrives tomorrow (14 May) on Napalm Records.
Last year, Kennedy teased more material from his collaborative project with Slash, however made sure to temper expectations as to when it will arrive due to the current pandemic. “[we’ve been] working on new material off and on for years, really,” he said. “I mean, since we did the last run, which was, geez, how long has it been now? I don’t even remember. Everything is just kind of running together!”
“There’s always new ideas starting to bloom. Due to the state of things, as far as getting that material out, we’re just going to have to wait and see. But, there are always ideas in the pipeline,” he added.
