Was 2024 the year pedalboard amps became truly universal? Reverb’s best-selling new pedal of the year is shocking
Reverb has unveiled its list of the best-selling new pedals on its platform in 2024 – and the pedal that tops the list is surprising, and potentially demonstrates that 2024 was the year that pedalboard amps truly went mainstream

Top of the list was IK Multimedia‘s ToneX One, which clenched the top spot by a whisker ahead of another surprising entry – Hologram Electronics’ high-end Chroma Console multi-effects unit.
The ToneX One is a compact version of the ToneX Pedal – itself a hardware vehicle for the hugely impressive and affordable ToneX amp capture and modelling software. The One offers a hugely affordable entry point into the world of pedalboard amps and amp captures, and might signal that the increasing popularity of floor-based solutions is gathering pace.
In many ways it should come as no surprised that the Chroma Console sold in such large numbers – it’s a hugely impressive unit, but it’s still surprising to see such a premium boutique pedal rank so highly. We gave the Chroma Console a glowing 9/10 earlier this year, praising it for offering “a truly musical twist on the traditional multi-effects format”.
“This might not be the most exhaustive or comprehensive unit out there, but it more than makes up for that by offering user-friendly access to a wealth of quality sounds that can be combined in innovative and musical ways.”

Elsewhere, Earthquaker Devices also shifted plenty of units this year, claiming the next two spots on Reverb’s list. The third most popular pedal on the platform was the Dirt Transmitter Fuzz Driver Legacy Reissue, followed by the Blumes Low Signal Shredder. Rounding out the top five, meanwhile, was the Keeley Muse Drive Andy Timmons Overdrive.
Reverb doesn’t include any exclusive pedals that were only sold on its platform in its end of year countdown. It did, however, acknowledge which exclusive pedals sold best this year.
In this category, the top sellers were the Way Huge WM20JB Deep State Joe Bonamassa Signature, the Third Man Hardware X Donner Triple Threat and Death By Audio’s Cyberpunk Edition of the Time Shadows II. Two releases by Alex Lifeson’s Lerxst brand also did especially well – the Snow Dog octave fuzz and Blah Blah wah.
