“This will do him good, to do this show. It really will” Tony Iommi thinks Black Sabbath reunion will be beneficial to Ozzy Osbourne’s health

It’s been an emotional few days for fans of Black Sabbath following the announcement that the band’s original lineup will reunite for one final show this July.
While the event marks the end of an era, guitarist Tony Iommi believes it will be more than just a farewell to fans. For his buddy Ozzy Osbourne, he says, this performance will be a deeply meaningful experience, one that’s beneficial to the frontman’s health and well-being.

“This will do him good, to do this show. It really will,” Iommi tells NME. “That’s what it’s all about: he wants to get out and do something.”
Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, echoes the sentiment, revealing that her husband is feeling “very emotional” about the upcoming show.
“[It’s] what he wants,” she explains. “He wants to say thank you to everybody. He didn’t have that chance because of his illness, but now he does have the chance.”
Despite his well-documented battle with Parkinson’s disease, Osbourne remains eager to take the stage one last time.
“He’s really great. He’s got Parkinson’s, which we all know, but he’s great and it doesn’t affect his voice,” Sharon assures. “He feels like he’s never had a chance to thank the fans; to say ‘thank you for this unbelievable life’.”
In addition to being Sabbath’s swansong, the one-day festival, dubbed Back To The Beginning, will also include performances from a epic lineup of metal bands including Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Gojira and Anthrax, as well as Alice in Chains, Lamb of God and Mastodon.
“Can you imagine the photo at the end of it with all of these guys together? One mass of icons together out here. That ending photo will be incredible and it will go down in history,” Sharon says.
Elsewhere in the chat, Iommi also reflects on Black Sabbath’s enduring legacy, noting how “incredible” it is that the band’s music has “stood the test of time”.
“When you think back to when we did those first albums, we did them live in two days,” says the guitarist. “It was great to be able to know that we did it that way. Those days were great.”
Tickets to the festival will go on sale next Friday (14 February) at 10am GMT. Visit Ticketmaster for more information.
