This song is about a man’s compulsion to buy and sell guitars – and we love it
Can’t stop buying guitars? Well, we may have just stumbled across a fun new song that you’ll find rather relatable.
Jesse Welles – also known simply as Welles – has just shared a new song online, all about how he wants “more guitars than stars in space”, and he’s even managed to name drop a whole bunch of brands, from Gibson and Taylor, through to Yamaha and Takamine, all while managing to still make it rhyme.

The song, simply titled Guitars, documents his love of guitars and guitar music that grew from early childhood. The song has caught the attention of gear marketplace Reverb, which is mentioned in the song. The brand comments, “I’ve never felt more seen”, while bluegrass artist Billy Strings – who is also mentioned – has also left some heart emojis below the video. Blake Wyland of the Tone Mob Podcast also adds, “Man this is the truest and best song ever to grace the interwebz [sic].”

Welles often shares clips of his music online, many of which are folk protest songs. They typically mix a lyrically political angle over his folk playing style, with tracks exploring topics such as the US healthcare system, poverty, and war.

Speaking to Guitar.com in 2018, Welles explained why he prefers the blues over big, shreddy performances: “I tried that, but I couldn’t do it. The sweeps did me in. If you could do the sweep thing, you were cool, but I couldn’t sweep. I just wasn’t built for it. So I dug in my heels and got into the blues more,” he said.
“You can play the blues on any old guitar – you don’t need scalloped necks and all that stuff. Plus, there’s more longevity to the blues. Buddy Guy is still out there, you know? So while my generation went to the pentagram, I went back to the blues.”
