“This film is all about YOU!”: Metallica are releasing a new documentary film celebrating their fans
Metallica are releasing a new film this year, and if you’re a fan of the band, you may even be in it.
Titled Metallica Saved My Life, the film celebrates their fanbase, and features interviews with the band members and some of its most loyal listeners. They’ll share their own unique stories of finding community through their music, and what it means to them.

The band comments, “As a few of you may know, we’ve been working behind the scenes the last couple of years on a new film that will be released later this year starring you guys! Metallica Saved My Life explores our world through the lives of fans who have supported each other through highs, lows, trials, and triumphs for over four decades. And yeah, we’re in it a little bit too.
“You have the chance to view the film first with a sneak peek at theatres in most of our upcoming tour stops in North America. It’s not quite finished yet, but we can’t wait for you to see it and let us know what you think… To all the fans who so generously gave us their time and let us into their lives, we say ‘thank you.’ This film is all about YOU!”
Award-winning director Jonas Åkerlund has been working on the film, who fans may know from his work with the band on their music videos, namely for Turn The Page, Whiskey In The Jar, and ManUNkind. You can watch the trailer below, and you may even be able to spot some other famous faces in it too:
Tickets are available now for early screenings in all tour cities (except Columbus) and are limited to two per person. Metallica says they will keep a close eye on sales and add screenings where possible should your city sell out quickly. The full, finished documentary is expected to be released later this year.
