The Cure’s Robert Smith is auctioning his personal Schecter signature guitar for charity
Robert Smith is auctioning his personal Schecter signature guitar – the UltraCure – to charity, The Cure announced on Twitter.
The guitar sold will be played and autographed by Smith at the Pasadena Daydream Festival on 31 August, and will benefit Free Arts For Abused Children, Inner-City Arts, Little Kids Rock, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation and The Painted Turtle.
Although the Cure frontman has used several offset-bodied guitars over the course of his storied career, in recent years he’s often spotted slinging the Schecter Robert Smith UltraCure.
The guitar has been revamped for 2019, and is equipped with a chambered mahogany body, an ebony fretboard, two Seymour Duncan ’59 humbuckers and a set-neck design. There’s a version of the UltraCure with a Bigsby, but it is unclear exactly which model is on the block.
The alt-rock band curated and will be headlining the Pasadena Daydream Festival. Also on the bill are several other icons from the 90s, including Pixies, Deftones, Throwing Muses and Mogwai.
