Taylor launches a guitar built from city-based trees

Taylor has launched its new urban wood initiative with the introduction of the Urban Ash Builder’s Edition 324ce. This acoustic-electric model uses Shamel ash, which is sourced from city-based trees that were originally selected for removal.
In a blog post, the company compared Shamel ash – which it claimed to be heavier, denser and more resonant than ‘swamp’ ash – to Honduran mahogany, saying that “its focused, fundamental-strong voice” helps the instrument produce “clean notes mostly free of ringing overtones”.
The Builder’s Edition 324ce incorporates this never-before-used tonewood in its back and sides – pairing it with a tropical mahogany top. This Grand Auditorium-shaped instrument features V-Class bracing to boost its mid-range for a more “in-tune, musical sound”, chamfered body and fretboard edges, as well as a beveled armrest and cutaway.
In terms of hardware and electronics, the 324ce is equipped with Gotoh 510 tuners with a 21:1 gear ratio, and an in-house developed Expression System 2 – a behind-the-bridge pickup that is paired with a “professional audio”-grade preamp to produce a responsive amplified tone.
The Builder’s Edition 324ce comes in a silent satin finish with a dark edgeburst treatment, and ships in a deluxe Taylor hard case.
The Builder’s Edition 324ce retails at $2,999, learn more about it here.
