“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well”: Aerosmith bassist reveals he’s hopeful the band may perform together again
Last August, Aerosmith fans were left heartbroken when the hard rock legends announced their immediate retirement from touring. The decision came after frontman Steven Tyler suffered a serious vocal cord injury, forcing the band to cut short their highly anticipated 40-date North American trek.
But there may be hope yet for those hoping to see the legendary rock band on stage once more, as Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has teased that the band “may do something in the future” – if Tyler were willing.

Speaking on Boston radio station WBUR, Hamilton says that although Tyler is currently recovering “really well”, he doesn’t want to “push” the singer into anything he doesn’t want.
“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” he says. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if’, and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction. If we do anything in the future, it would come from him.”
The bassist previously told AARP that while he is optimistic about the band reuniting, a full-on tour at this point is highly unlikely.
Asked on a scale of 1 to 10 how hopeful he is that Aerosmith will reunite, Hamilton said: “On the hope scale, I’m somewhere between 7 and 9. We won’t be doing any tours from now on, but I’ll always have hope that other types of opportunities will come along. This isn’t the first time black clouds have been on our horizon – and somehow the sun managed to come out. Time and hope are all we have at the moment.”
The 73-year-old also remained skeptical about the likelihood of another Las Vegas residency, saying: “I have doubts that there are any more in the future.”
In related news, Hamilton previously shut down the idea of Aerosmith continuing to tour with another singer, stating, “There’s been no talk at all about going on the road with another singer. I can’t imagine it.”
