Steve Vai is selling two of his Ibanez JEMs for charity

Steve Vai is hosting a charity auction to sell two of his signature Ibanez JEM models. Namely his JEM LACS Braxis and JEM77B RMR – two guitars originally sold in his 2022 auction.

“I originally sold these guitars in a Julien’s auction some years ago to a good friend, Mark Burnstein,” Vai explains in an Instagram post. “Mark started a charity organization in the name of his departed son, the Alexandar David Burnstein Memorial Fund for Musical Performance.”
“[Mark] donated my old guitars back to me to put up for auction to raise funds for this charity” Vai continues.
This means that Vai’s guitars are set to raise invaluable funds for charity for a second time. A portion of proceeds will also be donated to Extraordinary Families, a non-profit foster adoption organisation based in Los Angeles.

In the accompanying video, the two Ibanez models stand next to Vai. The JEM LACS Braxis stands in front, an experimental 2014 build boasting a fatter neck and compound radius fretboard.
The model is also kitted out with a jumbo EVO gold fret-wire, as well as a push-pull volume control to allow Vai to engage a high pass filter on the taper of the volume control. The white headstock also has Vai’s signature scrawled on the back.
Just behind stands the JEM77B RMR, otherwise known as the JEM77 Rock Mirror. The reflective finish really amps up this guitar’s rockstar quality, while the bolt-on maple and walnut neck and 24-fret rosewood fingerboard adds a nice contrast.
This guitar also consists of DiMarzio Breed pickups, with an Edge Pro double-locking tremolo and some Gotoh locking tuners.
As of right now, Vai’s JEM LACS Braxis has already been auctioned off. The guitar went for $25,000.
Fortunately, the JEM77B RMR is still up for grabs on Reverb. The listing price is currently $20,000.
