NAMM 2025: Sterling By Music Man – the branch of Ernie Ball Music Man which offers more affordable instruments – has launched a range of new guitars and basses at NAMM 2025.
Comprising six new models in total – there’s three new electric guitars and three new basses on offer.

StingRay Plus

Taking the classic StingRay blueprint to “new heights”, the StingRay Plus boasts a roasted maple neck, P-90 pickups with a built-in volume boost, a colour-matched headstock, sleek block inlays, and a choice of either a Black or Seafoam Green finish. The StingRay Plus comes with a price tag of $599.99.
Axis

Available in Yucatan Blue or Lava Burst, the Axis “blends style and performance”, with a roasted maple neck and fretboard, quilted maple top, matching headstock, double-locking tremolo system for “rock-solid tuning stability”, dual humbuckers, a single volume knob and three-way toggle switch. Priced at $649.99.
Sub Series Cutlass

In 2025, Sterling’s Sub Series Cutlass received a vintage-inspired refresh, with upgraded Alnico pickups and a range of retro finishes, including Olympic White, Sherwood Green and Daphne Blue. It’s powered by an HSS configuration, with single volume and tone controls and a five-way pickup selector switch. Priced at $349.99.
Bongo

Ernie Ball’s classic Bongo bass model is now available as an affordable Sterling By Music Man version, featuring a roasted maple neck and sleek contoured body with deep cutaways – for “exceptional comfort and upper-register access”. It also sports dual humbuckers, a pickup blend control and a two-band EQ. Available in both four- and five-string configurations – priced at $699.99 and $779.99, respectively – the Sterling By Music Man Bongo comes in either Firemist Purple Satin or Stealth Black.

“The passive powerhouse is back,” so says Sterling By Music Man. Offering a “balanced and reliable sound across genres”, the Sterling SB14 features an Alnico V parallel humbucker for “vintage warmth and dynamic responsiveness”. Available in a limited-edition Blue Pearl finish and priced at $649.99.
DarkRay 5
Sterling By Music Man
The priciest offering of the lot at $1,479.99, the five-string DarkRay – designed in collaboration with Darkglass – offers a custom Darkglass two-band active preamp with three modes – Clean (preamp only), Alpha (distortion) and Omega (Fuzz) – which can be switched between using the bass’s colour-coded LED ring and three-way selector.
