Sgt. Pepper is getting another new spatial audio remix for Apple Music
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is getting another spatial audio remix for Apple Music as producer Giles Martin is dissatisfied with how it sounds now.

Apple Music rolled out spatial audio streaming in June and highlighted the acclaimed Beatles album in numerous playlists showing off its Dolby Atmos chops. That version however, is set to be replaced by the Summer, according to what Giles Martin told Rolling Stone.
“Sgt. Pepper, how it’s being presented right now, I’m actually going to change it. It doesn’t sound quite right to me,” he said. “I’m gonna replace it. It’s good. But it’s not right.”
Diving further into what it was that sounded off to him about the current version, Martin said “It’s a bit bright, a bit digital” and seemed to “lack a bit of bass and a little bit of weight behind it.”
Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin and supervisor of the fab four’s stereo and surround remixes, also worked on The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl, in which he used audio separation technology at Abbey Road Studios to remove unwanted crowd sounds.
Martin hopes the technology will improve so he might remix the band’s other records in spatial audio.
“The software is getting a lot better,” he said. “I’m constantly looking at how we would approach it if I ever get to [remix] Revolver or Rubber Soul, early albums, which a lot of people want me to do.”
