Schecter releases replica of Prince’s Cloud guitar
Prince’s iconic Cloud guitar has become something of a rarity in the six-string world, with purchases of a replica only possible in-person at Paisley Park. That has all changed with Schecter’s announcement of a worldwide release of Cloud replicas.
The guitar first entered the public eye after featuring in the 1984 film, Purple Rain. Its origins, however, date back to the year prior, when Minneapolis luthier Dave Rusan constructed the one-of-a-kind piece for Prince. The Nothing Compares 2 U singer subsequently commissioned Schecter to remake the Cloud in new colours and tasked the company with repairing his older Cloud models.
The Cloud replica in whiteThe replica itself features a mahogany body, a three-piece maple set-neck and a maple fretboard adorned with Black Prince Love Symbol inlays. It’s also loaded with two EMG humbuckers – 81 (bridge) and SA (neck) – wired to a master volume control, master tone control and three-way pickup switch.
Available in White or Blue finishes. Retails at $1,750. More info at prince.com.
