According to a report from Reuters, Russian UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia stated, “Let’s see what he will say. He has a position and you will hear it tomorrow” while jokingly adding, “Perhaps he will sing to us, too.”
A UN Security Council diplomat, speaking anonymously, remarked to the publication: “Russian diplomacy used to be serious. What next? Mr. Bean?”
Yesterday (7 February), Waters publicly refuted wide ranging claims regarding his alleged politics, made by Polly Samson, the spouse of his ex-bandmate in Pink Floyd David Gilmour.
“Roger Waters is aware of the incendiary and wildly inaccurate comments made about him on Twitter by Polly Samson which he refutes entirely. He is currently taking advice as to his position,” read a tweet from Waters’ account.
Samson’s tweet seemed to be prompted by Waters’ interview with German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, in which he gave his position on Ukraine, Putin, and Israel.
In it, Waters called Pink Floyd’s collaboration protest song with Ukrainian singer Andrij Chlywnjuk “really, really sad”, and described the move as one that “encourages the continuation of the war”.
