Roger Waters defends Gilmour’s solos, claims he was misquoted as calling them “horrible”

Roger Waters has stepped forth to claim that he was misquoted calling David Gilmour’s solos on Dark Side Of The Moon “horrible” in a previously published article.

In a tweet yesterday (20 February) Waters addressed an article by The New Statesman (published on 15 February) in regards to his recently announced plans to re-record Dark Side Of The Moon.
Waters described that he was misquoted as labelling Gilmour’s solos “horrible” in the article – The New Statesman, however, attributed the quote to a feature by Spain’s El Pais newspaper, which did not cite a source for the quote at the time.
“Now, I don’t know who he thinks he’s quoting when he says Gilmour’s ‘horrible guitar solos,’” Waters said, “but it sure as shit ain’t me.”
Praising Gilmour’s work on the album, as well as other Pink Floyd classics like The Wall, Animals and The Final Cut, Waters continued, “In my, albeit biased view, Dave’s solos on those albums, constitute a collection of some of the very best guitar solos in rock and roll.”

Waters and Gilmour have recently been at odds after Gilmour’s wife, novelist Polly Samson, publicly criticised Waters as an anti-Semite and a Putin apologist, among other claims. Earlier this month, Waters took aim at Gilmour and the late Rick Wright, claiming that they “can’t write songs”. Speaking about his role as a band leader after  frontman Syd Barrett had “gone loopy” due to drug use, Waters proclaimed, “They are not artists! They have no ideas, not a single one between them. They never have had, and that drives them crazy.”
