Peter Hook, Nile Rodgers, members of Hole and more contribute to Sober 21, a new zine about sobriety
Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook, legendary producer Nile Rodgers, members of Hole, Interpol and LCD Soundsystem and more have contributed to Sober 21, a new zine about sobriety.
The zine collects essays by the contributors, as well as interviews, and is published by The Creative Independent.
It was spearheaded and edited by Elia Einhorn, the frontman for Scotland Yard Gospel Choir and Fashion Brigade, who has been sober for 24 years. In an introduction to the zine, Einhorn described Sober 21 as a “free resource for musicians who want to begin the journey, or are new to the path of getting clean and sober from drugs and alcohol. Our goal is to help other alcoholic/drug-addicted musicians see the amazing freedom, and benefit to our art, that we found in sobriety by sharing our own experiences.”

A release on the Creative Independent’s website notes that the zine “brings together a group of musicians that varies in age, gender, race, sexual orientation, musical styles, amount of time sober, and years in the music industry.
“What they have in common is that they were actively addicted to alcohol and drugs, and that they share here that they are now free from that addiction. The contributors are all – save one, included intentionally –professionally active in music.”
Other contributors to the zine include Annie Truscott of Chastity Belt and Routine, Brad Truax of Interpol and Soldiers of Fortune, Jennifer Cardini, John Grant and Richard Lloyd of Television.
The zine is being shared as a free digital version and as a physical version.
