Palma Music Studios welcomes first Unity monitors in Mallorca

Unity Audio’s 2-way active Rock near-field and Avalanche active sub-woofer monitoring combination has been installed into the new six studio Palma complex of Swedish songwriter and producer Fredrik Thomander and Johan Lundgren, PSNEurope sister publication Audio Media International has reported.

The installation of the speakers, which are designed for tracking, mixing and critical mastering, are the first Unity Audio products to be sold into Mallorca.

“We have The Rock MkII’s in most of our rooms at Palma Music Studios and we love them,” said Thomander. “They sound like a perfect combination of many of the classic nearfield montors. I can work for hours without getting tired, and together with the Avalanche subs they deliver both the clarity and punch we need for meeting the needs of our clients.”

Thomander opened the doors to his studio, The Palma Music Studios situated in Mallorca’s creative hub, earlier this year. He has had numerous hits and a long career working with artists and companies including N’SYNC, Scorpions, Kim Wilde, ABBA’s Agnetha Faltskog, Arashi and Disney amongst others.

The producer chose the monitors because he was looking for something that would enable him to work faster and more accurately: “Unlike with my previous monitors, I’ve found that I have been able to work full sessions with the Rocks and not feel the slightest bit of fatigue,” he said. “What I love the most is that I can run them at really low volume and still hear all the benefits. They can also be crazy loud and, when they are, they’re crazy clean, and sound effortless. These are speakers I can trust and I am so fortunate to be able to work on them every day.”

The Rock MKII Professional is equipped with a 100 watt discrete bi-polar low feedback amplifier with custom wound transformers and uses a 50KHz folded ribbon tweeter, along with a 180mm woofer that features a 0.2mm aluminium foil. The driver combination delivers a frequency response of 37Hz-38kHz +/- 3db. The Avalanche active sub-woofer is primarily designed to compliment the existing Rock and Boulder models, transforming them into full range 3-way and 4-way systems and extending their low frequency performance down to 22Hz.

The Avalanche uses a downward firing 300mm woofer, designed especially for heavy-duty sub-woofer applications. The Avalanche retains the sealed cabinet design approach but features a dual-chamber with an Aperiodic Vent. This delivers all the benefits of a sealed cabinet such as zero port noise and tight fast accurate bass reproduction, while significantly increasing the bass response available from a smaller cabinet design.
