Origin Effects launches the Halcyon Blue – a Marshall Bluesbreaker-inspired drive pedal with some tweaks

In the last few years, Origin Effects has been steadily releasing its Halcyon overdrive pedals, which take inspiration from some of the guitar world’s most iconic drive stompboxes. The Halcyon Green, for example, is inspired by the Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer, while the Halcyon Gold embodies the sound of the highly sought-after Klon Centaur. Now, with its new Halcyon Blue, Origin sets out to offer some Marshall-inspired magic.
Inspired by Marshall’s classic Bluesbreaker pedal, the Halcyon Blue Overdrive aims to replicate those ‘90s tones with a fresh injection of warmth.

Marshall released its own replica of the Bluesbreaker just last year, and speaking to Guitar Player, Marshall’s Steve Smith asserted that the pedal was an exact replica.
“We copied them exactly,” he explained. “We did toy with the idea of doing some modifications. The Bluesbreaker and Guv’nor are two of the most copied pedals ever, but they have their little quirks… We thought, Shall we tweak it? Shall we change it? But we concluded: No.”
However, Origin Effects thought that a few tweaks might do the Bluesbreaker a world of good. Alongside some boutique-style tones and a more prominent midrange, the pedal also has an added Dry control. The addition will allow players to blend clean and processed signals, making it easier to seek out a the exact, glorious tonal sweet spot you’re itching for.

The pedal is built around Origin Effects’ own Adaptive Circuitry, which adjusts the pedal’s tone in accordance with the guitar’s dynamics and volume shifts.
The pedal can ‘adapt’ perfectly to your desires, controlled by a three-way switch that can allow you to entirely remove it from signal if you need to. There are also two different voice modes, with a MOD mode to add extra gain and low-end weight.
Designed and built in the UK, the pedal also looks the part, encased in blue and silver brushed stainless steel.
The Halcyon Blue Overdrive is priced at £207.50 and can be purchased via Origin Effects.
