My Guitar Story: George Glew on his battle-scarred Fender Stratocaster

Episode three of My Guitar Story sees the acclaimed George Glew discussing the interesting, and sometimes bizarre, story behind his 2009 American Deluxe Stratocaster. Prior to his affiliation for Strats, Glew could be found using a Gibson SG, but pined after a Fender due to his love of Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro and the sultry lead work of John Mayer.

Glew took to Facebook marketplace and found someone searching for an SG who was also willing to trade their guitar, which was conveniently a Strat. “The scratchplate had been sprayed white, there’d clearly been some handiwork. It wasn’t in great shape but I was willing to take it,” he admits.
Fitted with an S-1 switch and Samarium Cobalt noiseless pickups, it had all of the bells and whistles that he was looking for, including the original neck…
In this installment of MGS, Glew disects the story behind why the neck has been replaced, why gig bags aren’t as useful as they seem and his dislike of badgers. No, really. This is George Glew’s Guitar Story.
George Glew’s new EP, Gravity, is out now via Chameleon Music.
