Motörhead’s Lemmy headlines World of Tanks Modern Armour’s virtual Metal Fest: “We collaborated with the band to create an AI emulation of Lemmy’s voice”

Warfare-themed multiplayer game World of Tanks has announced the latest installment of its Metal Fest DLC series.
This year, the event introduces Motörhead legend Lemmy Kilmister and Rob Zombie as playable 3D commanders, joining previously featured artists like Megadeth‘s Vic Rattlehead and Eddie of Iron Maiden. Motörhead’s Warpig mascot will also be making an appearance.

From 30 July to 20 August, players will have the chance to command their tanks with the distinctive voices and likenesses of these rock icons. They’ll also be able to customise their tanks and adorn their war machines with band-themed cosmetics and skins while battling in the World of Tanks Modern Armor universe.
According to developers, AI was used to bring the late bassist back to life in digital form. Brendan Blewett, the game’s audio director, said that Motörhead had “guided” the development of both the Warpig (the band’s mascot) and Lemmy’s voices.
“For Lemmy, it was obvious that using a sound-alike would lack an important level of authenticity”, he said. “So, we collaborated with the band to create an AI emulation of Lemmy’s voice, based on original voice samples from his private unpublished archives, including interviews and raw in-booth recordings.”
Motörhead added, “Modern technology has enabled us to have Lemmy fully integrated into the game, which felt appropriate given that this is exactly the sort of game he played and avidly enjoyed.”
Players can also relive last year’s event as past offerings from Maiden, Megadeth and Sabaton will once again be available during Metal Fest. Check out the trailer below.
