“Maybe a 10-minute acoustic slot? I won’t even take a fee!”: Pete Doherty offers to support Oasis on their reunion tour because he needs to get tickets for his French in-laws

“Maybe a 10-minute acoustic slot? I won’t even take a fee!”: Pete Doherty offers to support Oasis on their reunion tour because he needs to get tickets for his French in-laws

Last year was a rousing success for The Libertines. All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, topped the UK charts, proving the 9 year gap since 2015’s Anthems For Doomed Youth hadn’t dampened their musical spirit. Pete Doherty is hoping for an even stronger 2025 – and, if he had his way, The Libertines would be supporting Oasis.
Of course, Oasis already have the support for their monumental reunion tour sorted. The selection is is distinctly britpop in flavour, with Cast and The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft opening each night. However, Doherty would be keen to support on one of the dates. “If Noel or Liam are reading this: maybe a 10-minute acoustic slot?,” he jokes in the i Paper. “Even before the doors open?”

The plea comes as a last ditch attempt at securing tickets for the tour. “Because I’m famous and in a band, [my French family] all presume I can get tickets,” he says. “I said, to hold [the French family] at bay: ‘Oh, I might have a support slot at one of the gigs.’ Which, of course, isn’t true. But that’s bought me some time…”
“I’ll only charge travel expenses,” he adds, to sweeten his support offer for the Gallaghers. “I won’t even take a fee!”
Despite Doherty’s jokes, he does voice his respect for Oasis. “There’s a whole generation out there who long to see Oasis live,” he says. “Even [my son] Astile – for his 18th birthday, I bought him the [remastered] version of Definitely Maybe. Not as a piss take… well, maybe I did buy it as some sort of joke. And he f**king loved it!”
“It’s all he listens to,” he continues. “Since he heard Definitely Maybe, he’s picked up a guitar and wants to get a band together. My music never had that effect on him!”

Despite his son never being moved by Doherty’s music, that hasn’t discouraged him. This year, he’s even releasing a new solo album. According to the i Paper, the record offers a plethora of sounds, from country, folk, a touch of psychedelia, as well as a lullaby for his young daughter.
“It’s even got a clarinet solo on it,” Doherty boasts. “but in a Harlem way, not a [classical] way.”
Leading single, Felt Better Alive, is out now. The album of the same name will be released on 16 May. Doherty’s Anywhere in Albion tour also kicks off on 10 March, and you can grab tickets now.
