Matt Bellamy shows off a Manson violin bass with LED body binding
Manson Guitar Works has shown off its take on the Hofner violin bass guitar with a custom-built instrument for Matt Bellamy. The classic four-string instrument gets some striking visual appointments, including a glossy black finish, LED body binding and a light-up headstock logo.
The instrument continues the Muse frontman’s penchant for incorporating futuristic design elements onto guitars and stage costumes.
According to a Facebook post, the bass was built by Manson for Bellamy to use with The Jaded Hearts Club, the supergroup which also features vocalists Miles Kane and Nic Cester, guitarists Graham Coxon and Jamie Davis and drummer Sean Payne. The band originally started as a tribute band to The Beatles.
Acknowledging the heritage of the original Hofner instrument, Manson Guitar Works called out to the Beatle that popularised the violin bass in their post, writing: “Hey Paul McCartney, what do you think of that?”
A similar photo post was shared on Bellamy’s Instagram account, where he announced that his new bass guitar would be featured in a new song, Reach Out I’ll Be There, by The Jaded Hearts Club out this Friday (31 July).
Earlier this May, Bellamy gave an in-depth interview to guitar.com where he hinted at a possible new Manson guitar build that would incorporate the Digitech Whammy in its design.
One of the things we’re doing while we’re here is chatting about doing a collaborative guitar that has the Whammy components in it,” he explained. “So all that pitch-shifting and crazy stuff you can just do right there without any outboard effects.”
