Martin’s new-and-improved Standard Series features a host of player-requested spec updates

NAMM 2025: Martin has overhauled its flagship Standard Series for the first time since 2018, introducing a number of spec tweaks that “Martin enthusiasts have been asking for”.
The updates – which appear on the series’ existing D-18, D-28 and HD-35 models, as well as three new guitars, the D-17, 000-17 and OM-45 – are headed up by a new Sitka spruce Golden Era top bracing, which promises “a more vintage, breathy tone with enhanced sustain”.

As flagged by Guitar World, Martin’s Golden Era bracing pattern can also be found on its high-end Modern Deluxe series acoustic guitars, some of which have five-figure price tags.
Other spec updates include bone or ebony bridge pins – which replace the cheaper black plastic pins found on previous Standard Series models – and a new GE modified low oval neck profile – which “maintains its popular shape but is optimised for vintage appeal with minimal increase in total mass”.
The new Standard Series models also sport thinner fretboards with bevelled edges and improved string spacing, as well as new GE modern belly bridges with smoother corners for great comfort while playing.
“These are the changes Martin enthusiasts have been asking for, delivering a blend of vintage appointments and modern playability enhancements,” Martin says. “Players will notice improved comfort and vintage tones, particularly with the GE-inspired bracing and aesthetic refinements.”
In terms of the new models, the D-17 dons a dreadnought body shape, the OM-45 is an Orchestra Model, and the 000-17 sports a larger triple 0 shape. The D-17 and 000-17 are built using solid mahogany, while the OM-45 has a solid spruce top and East Indian rosewood sides.
