In the partner announcement, made on the company’s blog on Thursday (March 27), Manson Guitar Works CEO Adrian Ashton said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Meng into the Manson Guitars family. Having a globally recognised and experienced operator and founder with a long-term commitment to the world of music become a part of our team is a very exciting prospect for us all. His insight, energy, and shared belief in what we’re building here adds even more momentum as we continue our mission of pushing the boundaries of guitar design and performance.”
Kuok added: “I’ve been very fortunate to get to know the team over the past few years and what’s inspired me most is the passion and integrity of the people behind the company. The music industry is always evolving, but their unwavering commitment to crafting world-class instruments in the UK is a huge part of why they’re already so respected and successful today. I’m honoured to be joining the journey with what I believe is one of the most innovative modern guitar makers in history.”
Manson Guitar Works’ stamp on the instrument industry dates back to the 1960s, when Andy Mason crafted his first acoustic guitar. Several years later, Andy’s younger brother Hugh began experimenting with building electric guitars, creating the foundation for the modern iteration of the company.
Over their decades-long history, Manson Guitar Works’ clientele has included the likes of rockstars such as Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, Muse’s Matt Bellamy, Oasis’ Noel Gallagher, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and more.
Since the early 2000s, Manson Guitar Works has perhaps become best known for its custom guitars for Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, which merged the company’s world-class guitars with MIDI technology.
In 2019, Bellamy purchased a majority share in the company. Since then, Bellamy and Manson Guitar Works have announced and launched a new string of signature guitars, including more affordable models, guitar pedals and more.
Kuok’s Caldecott Music Group owns, under the umbrella of Vista Musical Instruments, a number of guitar-related brands including Harmony, Heritage Guitars and Teisco, and instrument retailers Dawsons in the UK and Swee Lee across Asia.
