Journey release first new music in a decade, The Way We Used To Be
Stadium-rockers Journey have made their return, releasing their first new recorded music since 2011’s Eclipse: a single entitled The Way We Used To Be.

The return follows a tease in January of this year that new music would be released from the band. However, no details of an upcoming album have been released alongside the new single. It has arrived alongside a music video, which you can see below.
Notably, the new track is their first since the band became embroiled in legal conflict across 2020. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neal Schon announced that they had fired bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith, and were suing them because of an “attempted corporate coup d’état,” using their business to take control of the Journey name. The suit has since been settled, however, Valory and Smith remain out of the band.
The track is also the first song since 1986’s Raised On Radio to feature bassist Randy Jackson, who in the years since has become best known for his time as the longest-serving judge on American Idol. He was re-hired after the dismissal of Valory.
The video and lyrics for The Way We Used To Be seem to pine for life pre-lockdown, with verses such as: “Need a way to get back / to the way we were lovin’ it / to the way we were livin’ it / Back to the way we used to be.”
