John Mayer teases the arrival of new music this Friday

Guitarist and singer John Mayer has teased the arrival of new music this Friday, posting a mocked-up magazine cover on social media.
The cover features him holding his signature PRS Silver Sky, with the promise that he’ll share “details… and music!” There’s also the quote “did I say April? I meant June”, in reference to previous teases he had made. The magazine cover is captioned simply: “Friday.” Take a look below.

It has been four years since Mayer’s last record, The Search For Everything, which was released on 14 April 2017. He’s been spinning up the wheels of single teases over the last few months, letting fans know that the as-yet untitled LP is “recorded, mixed and mastered,” in a caption on TikTok. “I’ve just been chilling and sharing it with friends for the past couple of months,” he added.
More recently, he took to an Instagram story to say “I know many of you have been waiting patiently for my next album. I assure you it’ll all fire up very soon. I’ll put it like this: every day you have to go without my new music is another day I can work harder to make sure it gets heard by as many people as might enjoy it.”
He added: “I hope you’ll think it’s worth the wait.”
Mayer has also used TikTok to share snippets of a new 1980s-inspired single. Despite the short nature of these snippets, guitarist Mary Spender took it upon herself to use the short previews to complete the song herself, even going so far as to use a PRS Silver Sky. She said in a video about the experience: “I thought it might be fun… just to challenge myself. He’s been dropping eight bars in these little TikToks… What’s the worst that could happen?”
