“It was so loud and it was so great”: John 5 on the Van Halen reunion rehearsal he’ll “never forget”

Rob Zombie and Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 has looked back on the time he got to sit in on a Van Halen rehearsal that ‘blew him away’.
Speaking on The Jeremy White Show, John 5 reveals that the session took place during Van Halen’s preparations for their highly-anticipated reunion tour with David Lee Roth. Not only did he have the opportunity to see the band’s talents and chemistry up close, the musician also got the chance to play through Eddie Van Halen’s iconic guitar.

“I would go to Van Halen rehearsals because I’ve known the guys for a long time,” he says [via Guitar World]. “It was right when they were getting back with Dave – we went down together. I worked with Dave a thousand years ago [as part of his solo band] but we’ve always been close.”
“He was like, ‘Come on down to rehearsals.’ It was rad.”
The rehearsal took place in a surprisingly intimate setting, which only amplified the impact of the band’s performance.
“This was a small room, it wasn’t massive and they were in there just playing and I was blown away,” says John 5. “It was so loud and it was so great. I’ll never forget it.”
“I got on Eddie’s stuff and played a little bit. [It was] crazy. [Eddie was playing] a Wolfgang. Unbelievable.”
Elsewhere in the chat, John 5 also offers his thoughts on Joe Satriani taking on Eddie’s parts for the Van Halen-centric Best of All Worlds tour with Sammy Hagar.
“Joe is one of the greats, and I am so excited to go and see the show,” he says. “I’m so happy that they are celebrating this catalogue. You want to hear these songs. Music is about having a great time and forgetting about life for a while.”
