“It pisses me off that I have to work for three hours”: Mark Tremonti gets frustrated watching people who are naturally talented at guitar
He may be one of heavy metal guitar’s greatest stars, but his skills on the six-string do not come easy, says Mark Tremonti, who admits it’s frustrating sometimes watching those whose talents come naturally.

Speaking on the new issue of Classic Rock, the Creed and Alter Bridge axeman argues that anyone can become as good as him on the guitar – so long as they are willing to put in the work.
“I think anybody who puts their mind to it can get faster at guitar playing. Things do not come easy for me,” says Tremonti. “I’ve seen other players where techniques seem to come so easy, and it pisses me off that I have to work for three hours on something that takes them half an hour.”
“But I feel like I’ve got a lot of gumption,” he adds. “If I want to do something, I will fail and fail until I get it, and I won’t give up.”
In other news, Tremonti recently spoke about how Eddie Van Halen had taken him under his wing during Creed’s early days. Not only did the late legend offer his mentorship, he also gifted Tremonti a guitar the latter continues to treasure even today.
“I remember Eddie going, ‘Hey, who’s the guitar player?’ and I raised my hand,” the musician tells Classic Rock.
“He’s like, ‘Come here,’ and he showed me his whole guitar rig and how everything worked. He’s like, ‘What colour do you like?’ I said: ‘Black.’ The next day, he brings me a black guitar, the Wolfgang guitar. It’s one of my prized possessions.”
