“I never travel without this little friend”: Steve Vai partners with Positive Grid on new signature Spark MINI
Positive Grid has unveiled the Spark MINI Vai, a version of its Spark MINI designed in collaboration with guitar virtuoso Steve Vai.
Designed to reflect the “unique tone and style” of “one of the world’s most groundbreaking and influential guitarists”, the Spark MINI Vai is an ultra-compact battery-powered practice amp featuring a host of features requested by Vai himself, including four onboard presets which offer the scope of Vai’s tones.

They include Fresh, a “crystal-clear” clean tone, Mild, a more bluesy clean tone with added grit, Hot, a well-distorted rock rhythm tone, and Fire, a “full-on” lead tone.
Elsewhere, the amp features a custom burgundy Tolex, custom gold piping and a gold lined strap – hand-picked by Vai. There’s also a mandala design on the front grille – made famous on Vai’s Hydra guitar – and a matching 10-foot guitar cable featuring 24K gold-plated connectors and a durable burgundy weave nylon jacket.
By downloading the Spark app, players can also access backing tracks and loops directly from Steve Vai’s catalogue to play along to.
And for Vai superfans, the guitarist has personally autographed 100 Spark MINI Vai’s which will be randomly awarded to 100 customers who purchase during the pre-order period, which starts 3 September.

“For me, this Spark MINI is an excellent portable practice amp,” Vai says. “The 4 tones allow for inspirational playing and I built these presets around my interests. The app allows for instant tweakage of any of the presets. I never travel without this little friend.”
Beyond the aforementioned, the specs of the Spark MINI Vai are the same as the Spark MINI. Boasting 10-watts of power, the Spark MINI has an easy-to-use set of controls, and can even be used as a Bluetooth speaker for streaming music.
