“I may try to bully Roger on that”: Pete Townshend says The Who will “definitely do something next year” – and it might be an album
Until now, recent comments made by Pete Townshend suggested a Who reunion would never be on the cards. In August, he said it would take a “river to cross” for him to be able to work with Roger Daltrey again. And when he suggested a reunion tour might happen someday, he quickly followed up by saying he was being “sarcastic”.
But now, there’s renewed hope, after Townshend recently sat down with The Standard and touched on the band’s future.

Revealing that he did, in fact, meet with Roger Daltrey for lunch “a couple of weeks ago”, Townshend says: “We’re in good form. We love each other,” adding, “We’re both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year.”
On exactly what that “something” might be, Townshend shows that nothing is concrete yet. “The album side of it… Roger’s not keen,” he says. “But I would love to do another album and I may try to bully him on that.”
In terms of any potential live shows, Townshend says he’s keen to strip back the arrangement after touring with a full orchestra last year.
“The last big tours that we’ve done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious, but we’re now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes.”
Comments made by Roger Daltrey to NME in 2023 cast further doubt on whether there’ll be new music from The Who. Speaking about The Who’s last album, 2019’s Who, Daltrey said: “What’s the point? What’s the point of records? We released an album four years ago, and it did nothing.
“It’s a great album, too, but there isn’t the interest out there for new music these days. People want to hear the old music. I don’t know why, but that’s the fact.”
