“I knew this day would come eventually but just not today”: Joe Bonamassa appears to move guitars from Nerdville amid LA wildfires
Blues maestro and guitar collector Joe Bonamassa appears to have moved instruments from his home gear museum, Nerdville West, amid the uncontained spread of wildfires in Los Angeles.
At least five large fires continue to rage at the time of writing, including one in Sunset, near Nerdville West, which is located in Laurel Canyon. Sunset Boulevard is said to be “in ruins”, per the BBC.

A new post on Bonamassa’s Instagram page shows the guitarist in front of a garage, which appears to be acting as a temporary safe house for some of his guitars. A keen vintage guitar collector, the destruction of Bonamassa’s gear collection would represent a staggering financial loss.
“It’s not in my hands anymore,” he writes. “A very hard place to be as a curator. It’s my lifetime of work. I knew this day would come eventually but just not today. So far so good tonight but the situation is very fluid.
“A major thanks to the firefighters and first responders for giving it their all these past few days. Stay safe Los Angeles. These are uncertain and unprecedented times.”

In another post, Bonamassa shares a photo of the LA skyline with a cloud of black smoke, writing: “This is what it looks like when your city is burning. It is like the sky is bruised and battered.
“I am heartbroken for all the Angelenos who lost their homes overnight. Nerdville is holding for the moment but as we know all it takes is one spark or insidious act to create total catastrophe.”

Since 7 January, a series of wildfires have devastated the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area and surrounding areas, destroying thousands of structures and forcing hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate the area. The fires are still ablaze at the time of writing.
This isn’t the first time Joe Bonamassa’s Nerdville has faced the threat of fire. Last year, the guitarist recalled the time his gear collection was nearly engulfed in flames while he was elsewhere on tour.
“I was up in Oakland, we’d just started a tour,” he said. “That night I get a call at 2am from my neighbour. He [sent] a video going, ‘Don’t worry, I got you, the fire department’s here.’”
“It was during the windy season and the dry season, where that shit should’ve swept right up the side [of Nerdville] and took the whole thing out,” he adds.
