“I don’t get from it what Taylor Swift gets”: The Who’s Pete Townshend doesn’t understand why The Eras Tour is so long
Pete Townshend has questioned why modern musicians including Taylor Swift insist on such a rigorous touring schedule.
It’s true, Swift is a pop star in her own league and the American singer-songwriter is on the road performing the Eras Tour; a 3-hour showcase celebrating each “era” of her albums.

In a recent interview with Record Collector, Townshend questions why modern musicians, like Swift, have to work “so fucking hard” to keep things going.
“Why does being a rock star have to be so fucking hard? Why does Taylor Swift have to work so fucking hard? Why does Bob Dylan have to be on the road 365 days a year? Why do The Rolling Stones have to go out when they’re all in their fucking 80s?” he questions.
Townshend adds, “What is it that drives them to do this? I’m just not in that gang. I don’t hate being onstage – I’m quite good at it – but obviously I don’t get it from where Taylor Swift gets it.”
It’s no secret Swift loves being on stage as her record-breaking Eras Tour proves. The singer’s mega tour is expected to make around $2bn (£1.56bn) in revenue by the time it finishes, twice as much as previous record-holder Elton John whose Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour made $939m (£730m).
As of today (15 August), Taylor Swift is returning to London to kick off five sold-out nights at Wembley. The slew of dates follow her previous three shows in June as part of her European tour schedule.
Similar to her June dates, Swift will be supported by American rockers Paramore as well as a handful of new acts who will play on different nights. The artists include Holly Humberstone, Suki Waterhouse, Maisie Peters, Raye and Sofia Isella.
The Eras Tour will then head back to the US and wrap up in Vancouver, Canada on 8 December. Head to Taylor Swift’s official website for more information.
