Boss shared an image (see above) of a cosmetic prototype of the pedal in a private Facebook group that the brand set up to chart the HM-2W’s development. Notably, the pedal doesn’t appear to feature the additional mini-switches for extra modes that many have come to associate with the premium Waza Craft reissues. However, this may just have been omitted in the prototype.
As reported by Gearnews.com, Boss President Yoshi Ikegami shared a statement to accompany the first look at the pedal.
“This is the first cosmetic prototype for HM-2W,” he wrote. “We pursued to keep [an] authentic HM-2 look then decided to use iconic orange knobs as well as the original HM-2!”
He added: “Now we are fighting with long [lead times] on some parts (despite such a situation, we think we should keep consistency with [the] original HM-2’s sound). We will do our best to deliver BOSS HM-2W to you guys ASAP.”
The original HM-2 – endearingly referred to as the Swedish Chainsaw – is most associated with Swedish death metal. With its settings maxed out, the pedal’s EQ curve creates a washed-out distortion sound that serves as the cornerstone of albums such Left Hand Path by Entombed.
