Gibson partners with Kiss’ Gene Simmons for G2 custom guitars and basses

Gibson has announced a partnership with Kiss’ Gene Simmons on a range of new electric guitar and bass collections.
The collaboration, known as G2, will introduce new instruments across the Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer brands. Alongside this are plans to develop “new entertainment content” on online and social platforms.
The first instrument to emerge from the collaboration is the G2 Thunderbird Bass (seen above), which will launch later this year. The instrument comes in Ebony with a choice of Silver or Blood Red accents. According to Gibson, plans are already in motion for a Flying V bass and electric guitar model.
“When I heard Gibson’s vision and learned about their creative process, it just made sense for us to join forces to take things to the next level,” Simmons said in a statement. “These guitars and basses will all be handmade, with a sound that is off the charts. The design is so beautiful and collectable that they are simply works of art.”
Gibson CMO Cesar Gueikian added: “Gene Simmons is not only one of the most celebrated musicians and rock stars of all time. He is also an entrepreneur, record producer, actor and overall creative person. Gene’s brain is always working, and I love that about him.
“Our shared vision compelled us to explore a partnership that would include developing instruments and creating a new platform to entertain and inspire new generations of Gibson and Gene Simmons fans to create music. Expect epic things.”
In other recent Gibson news, the company last week (6 January) announced its acquisition of Mesa/Boogie. The iconic amp brand is set to operate as a “Gibson Custom Shop” for amplifiers.
