Gibson has recreated the SJ-200 acoustic Jimmy Page used on Led Zeppelin’s debut album – but it doesn’t come cheap

After unveiling the Jimmy Page 1969 EDS-1275 Double Neck earlier this year, Gibson has expanded its lineup of guitars developed in collaboration with the Led Zeppelin legend with the 1964 SJ-200 – which pays tribute to the acoustic guitar Page used during the ‘60s and early ‘70s.
“Made in close collaboration and with significant input from Jimmy Page”, the 1964 SJ-200 arrives in two variations, though both will set you back a pretty penny. First up is the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200, of which 100 units will be available priced at $12,999, and the higher-end 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition is priced at $19,999, with only 50 units available.

Justifying the seven grand price difference between the two models is a smattering of extra features on the Collector’s Edition, plus the fact each of the 50 guitars has been signed on the rear of the headstock and played by Jimmy Page himself. Bear in mind, too, that the standard edition is also signed by Page on the soundhole label.

Features on both models include a Super Jumbo body constructed of highly flamed AAA maple back and sides and an AAA Sitka spruce top finished in Cherry Tea sunburst. Notably, the 1964 SJ-200 is slightly deeper than a standard SJ-200 at the neck joint, which, as Gibson explains, “contributes to its unique sound that’s not quite like any other SJ-200”.
Other specs include a three-piece highly flamed maple neck with a Round profile, bound 20-fret rosewood fretboard with Graduated Crown inlays, a ‘60s-style solid rosewood Moustache bridge plate with – intriguingly – a Tune-O-Matic bridge, and Kluson Waffleback tuners with Keystone buttons.

Additionally, each guitar comes with a Gibson Custom hardshell case with Page’s famous Zoso logo and an extra Tune-O-Matic bridge with gold-plated brass saddles, as well as a Zoso Certificate of Authenticity booklet and a Gibson “The Garden” vintage-style strap. The 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition also comes with a handcrafted Gibson wooden guitar stand.
Per Gibson, the 1964 SJ-200 is based on the acoustic guitar Page played while Led Zeppelin recorded their debut album, Led Zeppelin I. It was reportedly used on songs including Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, Your Time Is Gonna Come and Black Mountain Side.

Page also used that guitar for his solo appearance on the Julie Felix Show on 26 April, 1970, where he performed a medley of White Summer and Black Mountain Side.
As Guitar World notes, that guitar never belonged to Page, but was rather lent to him by producer Mickie Most. Sadly, that original model was stolen many years ago, and so there was no actual guitar which was examined while creating both the 1964 SJ-200 and 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition.
