Fender’s Boxer Series HH Stratocaster returns for 2021
Fender has revived the Boxer Series Stratocaster, a model that was originally released in the hair metal era of the 80s.
The 2021 version of the hot-rodded Stratocaster packs special electronics and a fast-playing C-shaped neck.
Elsewhere, the Boxer Series Strat has a lightweight basswood body that’s finished in gloss polyester. That’s paired to a maple neck with 22 jumbo frets and a 12-inch radius rosewood fingerboard.
Like the original, the Boxer Series Strat sports two humbuckers, specially voiced for rock and metal. These are routed to a two-way toggle switch for coil-splitting action and a TBX Treble Bass Expander knob. The latter, which replaces your standard tone control, helps shape sounds with an emphasis on bass, treble and presence.
As for hardware, there’s a two-point synchronised tremolo, Gotoh tuning machines and the same rubberised Fender control knobs from the original 80s model.

Last year, Fender also relaunched the HH-equipped Fender Player Lead III, which we called a “meaty-voiced rocker whose tonal arsenal is boosted by some useful switching tricks”.
