Ernie Ball Music Man’s StingRay bass guitars go short-scale
Ernie Ball Music Man has introduced the short-scale edition of its StingRay bass guitars, outfitted with the features from its bigger sibling, but with a new 30-inch scale length.
The Short Scale StingRay bass sports an ash body, which is finished in high-gloss polyester and a roasted maple neck. Fingerboard material depends on which of the two variants you choose. The Vintage Sunburst version (above) has a maple fingerboard, while the Starry Night version (below) has a rosewood fingerboard. Both feature 22 high-profile, wide stainless steel frets.
For pickups, this bass has a single EBMM passive humbucker, fitted with neodymium magnets. That gets routed to a push/pull volume pot with a boost; three-position rotary pickup switch with options for parallel, true single-coil and serial operation, and a tone pot.
On the hardware side of things, there’s the same modern classic bridge and lightweight Music Man tuning machines, also found on standard StingRay models.

Last month, the brand also announced a signature Bongo bass guitar for Dream Theatre bassist John Myung.
The Short Scale StingRay is priced at $2,099.
