Epiphone has joined forced with Gibson Custom to create the Inspired By Gibson Jimi Hendrix “Love Drops” Flying V, a recreation of the guitar legend’s own Gibson Flying V which he played between 1967 and 1969.
Despite most often reaching for a Fender Stratocaster, the late ’60s saw Hendrix embracing some Gibson models, including the model this new guitar recreates. The guitar in question originally boasted a sunburst finish, but was refinished in ebony before Hendrix hand-painted his own custom artwork.

The “Love Drops” guitar is undeniably one of Hendrix’s most captivating guitars. The Met Museum currently has the original, and it says the guitar played a role in a number of Hendrix’s recorded performances, including his 1967 BBC Radio 1 sessions and during the recording of the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s most commercially successful album, 1968’s Electric Ladyland.

Available in both right and left-handed models – which the left-handed rockstar would no doubt be pleased to hear – the “Love Drops” Flying V, alongside its psychedelic artwork, features a mahogany body, as well as Hendrix’s signature on the back of the headstock.
Other features include Epiphone Deluxe tuners, a Maestro Vibrola, rounded C profile neck, laurel fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and a pair of Gibson Custombucker humbucker pickups wired to CTS potentiometers, a Mallory tone capacitor and a Switchcraft three-way pickup switch. Each guitar also ships with an Epiphone hardshell guitar case.

Speaking about the guitar, Hendrix’s sister shares her hopes that the vibrant guitar will inspire a new generation of guitarists.
“Jimi’s artistic expression was all-encompassing,” Janie Hendrix explains. “It went far beyond creating magical music and expanded into another dimension of art that allowed us to see the beauty of his music. When he hand-painted his Flying V, it was an expression of his love for his instrument and his music.”
“With the Epiphone series, Gibson has recreated Jimi’s artwork beautifully!,” she continues. “We are excited to partner with them! Seeing Jimi’s handiwork come alive in this spectacular collection is extremely gratifying.”
The “Love Drops” Flying V is available now for £1,499 at Epiphone.
