Dave Mustaine offers an update on his signature Gibson Les Paul: “It plays like a beast”
Dave Mustaine has finally issued an update on his signature Gibson Les Paul nearly two years after the model was first teased.
In the latest issue of Guitarist, the Megadeth frontman confirms that the instrument is in the works and that fans can expect it to “play like a beast.”

“I love what’s going on with my Gibson relationship. I look at a lot of that stuff,” says Mustaine. “We’re doing some models, like the Flying V with 24 frets, and we’ve talked about a couple of others and are making them perfect.”
“One of those is the Dave Mustaine Les Paul. It will play like a beast, be a 24-fret guitar, and have the heel shaved down.”
In 2022, Mustaine’s guitar tech Bryan Jones shared a now-deleted post of the supposed signature guitar on Instagram. The Les Paul in question features Mustaine’s signature fret markers and 24 frets. It also sports his signature Seymour Duncan pickups and black hardware.
Meanwhile, Gibson has released a new set of electric guitar strings and strap with the Megadeth leader. The Dave Mustaine Signature String Set offers, according to Gibson, “the powerful, heavy sound and exceptional playing performance” that the rocker requires and is said to “bring out the best in his signature Gibson guitars.”
In other news, Dave Mustaine recently revealed the story of how he befriended a Megadeth fan after the latter shredded a Rust in Peace classic with such impressive skill.
“There was only one time ever that a fan showed me one of my songs. He played it the same way I played it. But it was not in the premise of somebody showing me an easier way to play my songs,” said Mustaine. “He had said he knew one of my songs and I said, ‘No, you don’t.’ It was the beginning of Lucretia, which is very difficult.”
“He picked up my guitar, which made me mad in the first place, and then he played Lucretia. went, ‘Damn, he’s got it.’ That began a 25-year friendship, and he’s still working with me today.”
