Dave Grohl surprises Coachella crowd with orchestral renditions of Foo Fighters songs
Dave Grohl recently surprised Coachella festival goers by performing alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and maestro Gustavo Dudamel during weekend two of the iconic desert fest.
Appearing at the festival’s Outdoor Theatre, Grohl — armed with his signature blue semi-hollow — joined the full orchestra for sweeping, symphonic versions of two Foo Fighters favorites: The Sky Is a Neighborhood and the beloved 90s anthem Everlong.

Alongside Grohl, the Philharmonic’s set also featured powerhouse performances from Wicked actress Cynthia Erivo, who delivered a soulful rendition of the Prince classic Purple Rain, and Natasha Bedingfield, who performed her 2004 hit Unwritten.
Saturday’s (19 April) performance also marks Grohl’s first public outing playing Foo Fighters material since a turbulent chapter in his personal life.
Last fall, the musician shared that he had fathered a child outside his marriage, later stating: “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
Since then, Grohl has gradually returned to the spotlight, with high-profile appearances at the recent FireAid LA and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.
Last October, it was reported that Foo Fighters were entering an “indefinite hiatus”. The band cancelled their planned headlining set at the Soundside Music Festival (28-29 September) in Connecticut just days before their appearance, with Jack White and Greta Van Fleet ultimately stepping in as co-headliners.
