Dave Davies slams AI-generated The Kinks song for sounding “like a horror show”

The Kinks guitarist Dave Davies has slammed an AI-generated cover of one of the band’s songs for being “fucking horrible”.
The track, titled Hop Skip Jump!, was uploaded to YouTube back in January. Taking to X to share his thoughts on the creation, Davies wrote: “What the fuck is this? This Kinks AI cover is like a horror show, sounds fucking horrible.”

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill also commented on Davies’ post, writing “you will be happy to know when I clicked on this it said ‘video unavailable’. (Still curious what The Kinks AI would sound like though),” to which the musician replied: “this one was s***”.
The creator of the song has since removed the video, even apologising to Davies, saying: “Sorry Dave I’m a big fan and my favourite all-time band. I meant no disrespect. I have taken [it] down.”
The fan also shared a video of his band covering The Kinks song Living On A Thin Line in the post — to which a much more approving Davies responded: “I really like your cover.”

Sorry Dave I’m a big fan and my favourite all time band . I meant no disrespect. I have taken down. Hopefully you prefer my cover of Living in a Thin Line

Earlier this year, Davies voiced his frustration after seeing his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trophy up for auction on eBay.
The English band, featuring the original members Dave Davies, his brother Ray, bassist Pete Quaife, and drummer Mick Avory, were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990.
According to Davies, the award had been listed “without my consent”: “I lost track of my award years ago and didn’t know where it was,” he explained. “If the person bought it at a storage unit it may have been [around] the time of my 2004 stroke when I was incapacitated in [the] UK.”
The musician — who had to relearn the guitar after his stroke — added, “I’m grateful to have made a full record from my stroke but it’s a shame that I wasn’t contacted. I’m assuming this is what happened. This auction makes me very sad.”
