Cort takes the boutique route with G290 FAT
Fresh from Cort’s locker is the G290 FAT, a boutique-style electric guitar that’s kitted out with a luxurious finish, playability features and the ability to handle a wide range of tones.
The first thing that catches the eye is the guitar’s arresting flamed maple top, which is available in either Antique Violin Burst or Bright Blue Burst finishes. The top is complemented by a solid selection of tonewoods, including a swamp ash body as well as a neck and fingerboard crafted from hand-selected birdseye maple.
Both the fretboard and neck contribute to playability. The fingerboard’s 12-to-15.75-inch compound radius is designed to make the transition from lower to upper registers easier, while the newly designed Ergo-V neck profile and shape provide comfort no matter where you are on the neck. The G290 FAT also boasts Cort’s spoke nut hotrod truss rod that lets you “dial in the exact amount of neck bow depending on the technique and style”, according to the brand.
The G290 FAT in Antique Violin BurstAs for tone, this axe relies on two VTH-77 humbuckers. They’re voiced for a range of genres and styles, and are equally suited for classic and modern tones. The pickup selector switch has custom wiring that lets you dig into glassy single-coil sounds at positions 2 and 4, and unleash throaty humbucking sounds at the bridge, middle and neck positions.
Another significant appointment on the G290 FAT is Cort’s CFA-III Tremolo. Designed with stainless steel saddles, solid machined steel block and a steel baseplate, this tremolo bridge caters for better sustain and punchier pick attack, Cort claims.
